What this page is

This page quotes r/interactivefiction's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-09-24. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/interactivefiction's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about AI and bots

AI-generated content and discussion belongs in other subreddits
There are several subreddits dedicated to AI-enhanced interactive fiction. One suggestion is r/ChatGPTGaming. This subreddit is meant for discussions about interactive fiction made without the use of AI tools.
All 6 rules of r/interactivefiction
  1. Be kind to each other.
This is a welcoming subreddit. Please do not harass other users. All kinds of interactive fiction are welcome here.
  2. Don't spam
Authors are free to share links to their new games and projects. We ask that authors do not share links to their own content more often than once a week. If you need to promote multiple games at once, please consolidate your posts.
  3. Don't link to hateful content
Don't link to interactive fiction containing material that violates Reddit's terms of service, or to sites containing a great deal of such material. This includes illegal content, hate speech, etc.
  4. No NSFW media or post titles
All NSFW posts should be flaired as NSFW, and titles should be SFW. If your game name is itself inappropriate, don't use it in the title, although the body of the post is fine.
  5. AI-generated content and discussion belongs in other subreddits
There are several subreddits dedicated to AI-enhanced interactive fiction. One suggestion is r/ChatGPTGaming. This subreddit is meant for discussions about interactive fiction made without the use of AI tools.
  6. Please keep discussion to interactive fiction
There are many definitions of interactive fiction. This subreddit takes the definition that Interactive Fiction means games or interactive stories that are centered on text. Some graphics-heavy games that are adjacent to text games (like adaptations of text games, games by text IF creators, or games with combinations of heavy text and video gameplay like Disco Elysium or Sunless Sea) are also appropriate.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
