No rule mentions promotion None of its rules mentions self-promotion. That is not permission: read every rule, say plainly that it's yours, and make the post useful on its own.
What this page is
This page quotes r/turning's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-09-26. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/turning's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.
Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.
Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

The Reddit corner for all things woodturning. If you have questions, projects, updates, gripes, or any other spiny wood, resin, or metal related thing, here is the place to post it. Check the /r/turning wiki for answers to some of the most frequently asked questions, including which lathe NOT to buy.
All 5 rules of r/turning
- Be nice
Be kind to other redditors. - Required karma
In an effort to reduce spam we require a minimum account age of 2 days and a minimum combined karma of 10. If you're a new account below that threshold, please do not send modmail, just leave some helpful and/or encouraging comments on other people's posts and you'll be there in no time! - No discussion or posting of "
Fractal Burning"
Posts and comments containing or discussing "Fractal Burning" AKA Lichtenberg wood burning will be removed. It is a potentially deadly process and has resulted in dozens of deaths. https://www.woodturner.org/Woodturner/Resources/Safety-Materials/Safety-Fractal-Burning-Lichtenburg-Burning.aspx - No grammar nazi stuff
Would you walk in to a room full of surly woodworkers in real life and correct them about how they talk? Good, then please don't do it here either. - Add value or move along
No shitposting. No bullshitting. Any advice you offer should be based on your own direct experience, or clearly cited if it is not. (E.g. "I've never done one of those but here is a good video from Mike Peace where he goes over that.") We also do not allow experienced turners to bully new turners here. This is not the place to try and build yourself up by bringing others down. If you post an unsolicited critique of a new turner's work, it should be helpful above all else and civil and tactful.
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
Let your AI read the rules before it posts.
ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
