What its rules say about promotion
Do not market your game here
While design-adjacent services might be of interest to people here, selling a game is like selling milk to dairy farmers. We are all busy making our own games, you won't make any money selling games here, it will just annoy people.
All 4 rules of r/tabletopgamedesign
- Talk only about tabletop game design
This is a very broad category, anything related or of particular interest to tabletop game designers is welcome! Off-topic stuff will be removed at moderator discretion. - Do not market your game here
While design-adjacent services might be of interest to people here, selling a game is like selling milk to dairy farmers. We are all busy making our own games, you won't make any money selling games here, it will just annoy people. - Flair your post
Flairs your post appropriately. Links to articles or design diaries should be flaired as "Discussion". **Most posts about your own game will be "CC/Feedback", for constructive criticism.** "Mechanics" is for brainstorming, analysis, comparison, and deep-dives into yours or any other game's nuts and bolts. - Positive engagement is king
This is a very Laissez-faire subreddit, but when people begin to irritate the sub, moderation will take place to encourage more meaningful engagement. Additionally, your post history, whether you are helpful in comments to others' posts, or people are engaging positively with your posts/comments will all be taken into consideration as context for moderation. The goal is to help each other make games and make them better!
What the written rules don't show
- Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
- Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
- The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
