What this page is

This page quotes r/SoftwareEngineering's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-09-24. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/SoftwareEngineering's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? What its rules say about promotion

Moderator Approval
Please be aware that certain types of posts must be approved by a member of our moderation team **before** they can be published. Posts Requiring Approval (non-exhaustive list, use your common sense): - Ask Me Anything [AMA] - Original Content that could be considered self-promotion. - Surveys, commercial surveys are never allowed. - Anything not directly related to the Software Engineering field, e.g. Discussing applications, editors, browsers.
Self promotion
We only allow posts from engineering blogs, if your site has your number, mailing list or your company offers services we will remove your post, if you continue to post self promotion it'll result in a permanent ban. We allow content from your site if it's clear that you're discussing something novel, interesting, did a decent amount of research and that you're not posting the same link to all the subs you can find. If you're a good contributor we will allow for OC more often.

What its rules say about AI and bots

This subreddit isn’t suitable for discussing career topics like bootcamps, college, or career changes. Do not: - How do you handle not being paid on time? - What’s the best way to manage software engineers? - How do you manage stress as a software engineer?
  3. Hardware Advice / Tech Support / Gift Idea
Absolutely no hardware discussion, tech support, coding help, debugging issues, etc. "How do you install google chrome?" ❌ "I can't remove this Android application, can you help?" ❌ "My code won't compile, what I'm I doing wrong?" ❌ "What's the best computer for a Software Engineer in 2024?" ❌

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
