What this page is

This page quotes r/RPGMaker's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-09-26. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/RPGMaker's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

This is a subreddit focused on discussing RPG Maker. This includes any version from 95 to U2U to any of the console titles.

What its rules say about promotion

No legally-protected IP without permission
Legally-protected IP should not be posted to the subreddit. This includes ripped assets from commercial games or media that includes other legally-protected IP materials (e.g., screenshots, videos).
No Low-Effort Promotional Posts
Posts advertising a resource or service must include original content showing it in action. A naked link to your itch.io page is not a post, it's a classified ad, and Craigslist is free. Show a video of your plugin working, a map built with your tileset, a clip of your music in a game. Get creative. Reposting the same ad weeks later with a fresh coat of paint is also not new content. If you're posting about it again, show us something we haven't seen.
AI Disclosure Required for Paid Content
All posts promoting paid resources or games must include an AI-disclosure tag. The tags are: **"AI Free"**, **"AI Art/Music"**, or **"Vibecoding"**. No tag, no post. If the community provides proof you left it off on purpose, enjoy your ban. Free projects are encouraged to tag but won't be removed if they don't. Screenshots, tech support, and dev updates don't need a tag. If you see untagged AI art in a WIP screenshot and it bothers you, downvote and move on.

AI Discussion Goes in the Megathread
General opinions on AI and its role in RPGMaker belong in the pinned megathread, not in standalone posts. Pro-AI, anti-AI, all welcome. Someone's opinion can be dogshit, but the person is not dogshit. If your sentence starts with "You are…" you're doing it wrong.
All 7 rules of r/RPGMaker
  1. No personal attacks
Critiquing screenshots, videos, music, animations, and gamedev ideas is allowed. However, do not make personal attacks or make denigrating comments on the personal nature of subreddit posters and commentes.
  2. No legally-protected IP without permission
Legally-protected IP should not be posted to the subreddit. This includes ripped assets from commercial games or media that includes other legally-protected IP materials (e.g., screenshots, videos).
  3. Keep It About Games
This is a gamedev subreddit. If someone said something awful on Discord or Twitter or a Portuguese F1 forum, that sucks, but it's not our jurisdiction. If they're not saying it here, take it up with them somewhere else. Downvote and move on.
  4. No Low-Effort Promotional Posts
Posts advertising a resource or service must include original content showing it in action. A naked link to your itch.io page is not a post, it's a classified ad, and Craigslist is free. 7. No media of fan-games using legally-protected IP
We cannot allow media of fan-games using legally-protected IP, regardless of whether it's a recolor, a custom form, or otherwise modified.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
