What this page is

This page quotes r/programminghumor's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-09-26. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/programminghumor's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

Programming Humor

What its rules say about AI and bots

No AI-generated posts or comments unless declared
If your post/comment has been generated with ChatGPT or other AI, please declare so and the reason why. Examples of valid reasons include: If English is not your first language, to summarise an otherwise-lengthy post, or to make a contextual example when discussing AI.
All 7 rules of r/programminghumor
  1. Keep it programming-related & Be kind
Memes about OS:s Linux distros, computer hardware. Memes about software when they are not related to programming for example: "Internet Explorer is slow".
  2. No reposts
You've all seen the state of r/ProgrammerHumor. We don't want this subreddit to turn into a cemetery of stolen memes.
  3. No links
Posts must be meme images, jokes or videos. No links to other websites (this includes YouTube-videos)
  4. No "X language bad Y language good" memes
Haha, this one language does not have this feature that the other language does. Very funny.
  5. Reaction images must be relevant to text.
No more images of cats with programming captions. That is very low-effort.
  6. Posts can not be puns
Who thinks "programmer would be fat if they went to snackoverflow instead of stackoverflow" is even remotely funny? Seriously. It's not.
  7. No AI-generated posts or comments unless declared
If your post/comment has been generated with ChatGPT or other AI, please declare so and the reason why. Examples of valid reasons include: If English is not your first language, to summarise an otherwise-lengthy post, or to make a contextual example when discussing AI.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
