What this page is

This page quotes r/piano's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-09-26. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/piano's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about promotion

No spam, advertising, apps, clickbait/engagement-bait, low-effort/AI-generated content, etc.
See reddit's definition of spam [here]( https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043504051-Spam). Spam includes posting too frequently, posting mainly links to your YouTube channel, low-content blog posts, advertising products, etc. Sharing of apps (even if free, created by you) is also not allowed. We make a judgment call on what is (or feels like) spam or clickbait. If you think we made the wrong call, or you're unsure if your post will be considered spam, please contact the mods.

All 8 rules of r/piano
  1. Common questions should be asked in the 'There Are No Stupid Questions' post
Check the [FAQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/piano/wiki/faqtest#wiki_r.2Fpiano_faq.2C_guides.2C_and_resource_links) if you want to know: * How much is this piano worth? * What is the make or model of this piano? * How do I find the name/notes/chords/sheet music for this song? * What's a good keyboard / piano to purchase? * How do I get started playing piano? * Am I too old to learn? If the FAQ doesn't help, you can ask your question in the stickied 'There Are No Stupid Questions' post.
  2. No low-effort/contextless images, jokes, or memes
Low-effort and meme image posts are better suited to /r/classicalmemes, /r/pianomemes, or /r/musicpics. Pictures lacking context or details are subject to removal. Please provide as much information as possible to foster good discussion.
  3. No basic tutorials, generic piano music videos, playlists
The amount of Synthesia "tutorials" or beginner song tutorials we get is too much and would overtake the subreddit if we allowed them. Very basic theory/song/other tutorials are better suited to /r/learnmusic. Synthesia videos are generally not allowed unless a human is playing. Generic music (e.g. "1 hour of sweet ambient piano") or playlists are also not allowed.
  5. Be nice to each other
Comments that contain personal attacks, hate speech, trolling, unnecessarily derogatory or inflammatory remarks or inappropriate remarks (e.g. commenting on someone's appearance), and the like, are not welcome and will be removed. See [reddit's content policy](https://www.redditinc.com/policies/content-policy) for more examples of unwelcome content.
  6. No critique in "No Critique" posts
Critique, except for positive reinforcement, is not allowed in "No Critique" posts.
  7. Compositions must include a score or be played by a human
Compositions must include a score or lead sheet *unless the composition is being played by a human on video*. Submitting generic, DAW-generated compositions without a score or lead sheet will be removed.
  8. "Critique Welcome" posts require a video of OP playing
Critique posts require a video of OP playing, at minimum just a keyboard and hands. The video must be of OP (or their child) and not somebody else.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
