Can you promote on r/mcservers?

Self-promotion restricted Its rules restrict self-promotion. Posts that promote your own work are likely to be removed.

What this page is

This page quotes r/mcservers's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-09-26. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/mcservers's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about promotion

No Sexually Explicit Mods
Your server must not contain game modifications of any kind (Datapack, Plugin, Resource pack) that contain sexually inappropriate content.
Do Not Harass Other Servers
Do not harass, disrupt, or interfere with other servers or their communities in any way, including advertising or spamming.
This subreddit is for Minecraft server advertising
We don't allow posts asking for a server to play on or advertising of another other than a Minecraft server.
All 8 rules of r/mcservers
  1. Post Only Once Every 7 Days
You may only post your server once every 7 days. This includes using multiple accounts to post your server.
  2. Follow Posting Guidelines
Please read our [posting guidelines](https://old.reddit.com/r/mcservers/wiki/index) before posting. Posts that do not adhere to these guidelines will be removed.
  3. Follow Voting Guidelines
Vote on servers based on the content and quality of their description. Don’t downvote other servers in an attempt to inflate the perception of your own server. This is a vicious cycle that doesn’t do any good for anyone.
  4. Public, currently (or soon to be) online, non-cracke servers only
Your server must be: - Online and in online-mode (ie, not 'online-mode=false'). No cracked servers - Currently online/open (coming soon is allowed if releasing within about a week or so) - A public server, meaning it is intended for general players and not just a small private friend group (whitelisted servers are allowed) If you're just looking for a few friends to join your small private server, try /r/MinecraftBuddies or /r/MinecraftServer
  5. No Sexually Explicit Mods
Your server must not contain game modifications of any kind (Datapack, Plugin, Resource pack) that contain sexually inappropriate content.
  6. Do Not Harass Other Servers
Do not harass, disrupt, or interfere with other servers or their communities in any way, including advertising or spamming.
  7. No asking for upvotes
You cannot ask your players to upvote your post as this is against reddit's rules. Strongly hinting instead of asking isn't allowed either. Asking your players to leave a comment IS allowed, and you are allowed to reward them for this if you'd like
  8. This subreddit is for Minecraft server advertising
We don't allow posts asking for a server to play on or advertising of another other than a Minecraft server.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
