  4. Rule 4: Maintain Respect & Constructive Dialogue.
A positive and respectful atmosphere is mandatory. Constructive criticism focused on design principles is welcome. However, personal attacks, rudeness, dismissive attitudes, bashing (of users, their spaces, tastes, budgets, vendors, or companies), gatekeeping, or excessive negativity are not tolerated. Violations will result in an immediate ban without warning. Be better, be supportive.
  5. Rule 5: Focus on Real Spaces: No Identification Requests or Vague Style Queries.
To maintain a focus on actionable design advice for users' own projects, we do not allow posts asking solely for the identification of furniture, accessories, or specific design styles (e.g., "What style is this room?"). Instead, frame your questions around understanding the purpose or application of design elements within a specific context.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
