What this page is

This page quotes r/GameDeals's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-09-26. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/GameDeals's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about promotion

Use our title format
Posts should avoid editorialization and use the following format: **[Store Name] Game title or promotion (Discounted price/Percent off)** For large sales events, there will be too many games to list. Please include some highlight games in the title that you or others may be interested in. More can be posted in the comments, or by using a self-post. [Full rule details](/r/GameDeals/wiki/rules/#wiki_3._title_format)
Avoid unauthorized resellers
Unauthorized resellers are sites that obtain codes and then resell them without authorization from the publisher. These keys are often obtained from other regions or more dubious sources, and can contain region locks or even be removed from accounts retroactively. For more information on resellers, see our [guide here](https://www.reddit.com/r/GameDeals/comments/2yhlw4/key_resellers_and_what_they_mean_for_you/). [Full rule details](/r/GameDeals/wiki/rules/#wiki_4._unauthorized_resellers)
Do not use affiliate links
To cut down on spammy posts, we disallow affiliates or referrals being posted on /r/GameDeals. However we do make an exception for approved charities. To learn more about affiliate links, [check our affiliates page](/r/GameDeals/wiki/affiliate) and see our sidebar for approved charities. [Full rule details](/r/GameDeals/w/rules/#wiki_5._affiliate_links)
No buying, selling, trading, or begging for games
/r/GameDeals disallows buying, selling, trading, and begging. This is because we don't want to see the comments section turn into a marketplace, and instead prefer the focus be on great conversations. The second reason is simply because we don't have a trust system in place like /r/SteamGameSwap does. We ask users to use that subreddit for trading or optionally, /r/GameSell or /r/GameSwap. [Full rule details](/r/GameDeals/w/rules/#wiki_6._buying.2C_selling.2C_trading.2C_or_begging_for_games)
Giveaways have conditions
Giveaways should not be chance based nor overly promotional. Personal giveaways (e.g. a reader giving away a specific game) are allowed, but only in the comments for the relevant deal. For instance, on a Humble Bundle post, an individual key can be shared in the comments of that specific deal. In most cases, bundle posts will have an automatic comment left by AutoModerator specifically for these giveaways. [Full rule details](/r/GameDeals/wiki/rules/#wiki_7._giveaways)

All 11 rules of r/GameDeals
  1. Be kind to others
Disagreements will happen, but remain respectful to others. Follow reddiquette. [Full rule details](/r/GameDeals/wiki/rules/#wiki_1._be_kind)
  2. Post only appropriate deals
GameDeals is supportive of many types of deals, but over time we've needed to prohibit certain categories. This includes mobile deals, betas, trials, free-to-play, crowdfunding, and lootbox bundles. Discounts on paid content for F2P games are acceptable, but links to the game itself with no discount are not. Games that are always free are also not allowed. What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.
