What this page is

This page quotes r/food's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-09-26. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/food's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

All 12 rules of r/food
  1. Original images / videos only
If you did not take the photo or video, do not post it. No stock, AI, stolen, or screenshots
  2. Title Format
For Images and video, the majority of your title must specifically describe what the food is. We also allow locations, who made it and noting attempts. Any other post, keep it descriptive. A [TAG] is always needed.
  3. Title Tags
[I ate] - Food you purchased and ate with no preparation of your own (Restaurant / Food truck / Food Vendor). [Homemade] - Food made at home by you or someone you know. [Pro/Chef] - Made as part of your work in food. [Text] - Text posts for help, feedback, long recipes. [Produce] - Raw ingredients grown, foraged, butchered, or purchased, shown as ingredients. [Podcast] - Food podcasts. [AMA] - Food AMAs with special guests. Check our Wiki for more information on the tags.
  4. Video posts must use Reddit's own hosting
Links to YouTube, TicTok, Insta etc are automatically blocked.
  5. Be Nice
Respect others. Do not belittle or devalue users or their food.
  6. Blog and website links
All website links are filtered, except those listed on our domain Whitelist. To have your own domain approved you need to meet the below: User Interaction Requirement: Users sharing their own Blog/Website links must actively participate on Reddit outside of their own posts. Recipe Sharing: Alongside any recipe links, a written recipe must be provided within the same comment. Original media Only: Blogs/Websites must be original content only. No stolen, stock, or AI-generated media.
  7. No excessively low quality media
No excessively blurred, small, dark, or cropped media where the food is not visible
  8. No unauthorised self-promotion
No unauthorised self-promotion, off site social links/watermarks
  9. No fast food chains or minimal effort pre-packaged foods/snacks
No media from large fast food chains or minimal effort pre-packaged foods/snacks (sweets/frozen meals etc)
  10. No political comments or titles
Do not bring politics into comments or titles
  11. No culture war comments
Reddit-born meme replies and culture war comments that target posters will be removed. They are off topic, unhelpful, and drive away real contributors. Examples include “Melt” on grilled cheese, “Not a burger” on chicken burgers, degrading TV show quotes or fights over international food differences
  12. Moderator discretion
Mods may remove any post, comment, or user if deemed detrimental to the community

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
