What this page is

This page quotes r/cats's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-09-26. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/cats's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about AI and bots

No Spam, Memes, Low-Effort Content, Ads or Fundraising
No repost spam or recent/viral reposts. No low-effort content such as memes or AI-generated or AI-altered images. No advertising, self-promotion, or fundraising of any kind.
All 9 rules of r/cats
  1. Respect other users
No harassment, insults, or personal attacks. **Do not** tell others how to raise their cats (for example, telling them to keep their cats indoors). Follow the sitewide terms of service as well as reddiquette.
  2. No Animal Cruelty or NSFW Content
No Animal Cruelty or NSFW Content. No animal abuse, harm, or graphic content. No photos of deceased cats. Users who promote NSFW/OnlyFans content may only participate using a separate SFW account.
  3. No Spam, Memes, Low-Effort Content, Ads or Fundraising
No repost spam or recent/viral reposts. No low-effort content such as memes or AI-generated or AI-altered images. No advertising, self-promotion, or fundraising of any kind.
  4. No False OC or Content Theft
Do not post someone else's cat and claim it as your own. It will result in a **permanent ban.** Source must be provided for Not OC content **whenever** possible.
  5. Use Correct Flair & Follow Post Guidelines
Use the appropriate flair for your post. Use **OC** for your own content and **Not OC** when sharing others’ content. Some posts (such as "**Name my cat**") require owner verification.
  6. Disallowed Topics
Posts asking about your **cat’s breed** or **gender** are not allowed. **Political** or politically charged content is not allowed. Do not share personal or identifying information or engage in **doxxing**.
  7. 'Name my cat/kitten' posts are allowed, but require the correct flair + verification to ensure OC.
You must set the flair of your post to 'Name Request' at the time of submission, failing to do so is in breach of this rule. Please submit your post before sending us a modmail - your submission will trigger an automated message which will contain the instructions required for your post to be approved. Your verification message will be left unanswered if you send us a modmail before you have submitted your post for us to review.
  8. Adoption & Rehoming Guidelines
To protect our community from scams, no direct financial transactions are allowed. You may not ask for rehoming fees, shipping costs, or donations. All adoption posts must include a verification photo of the cat with a handwritten note showing your Reddit username and today's date. Only verified, registered rescues may request adoption. Please try a local/regional subreddit first, they are more likely to be able to help.
  9. Moderator Discretion
Moderators may remove content or issue bans at their discretion if it negatively impacts the community.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
