What this page is

This page quotes r/backpacking's rules as ThreadFox read them on 2026-10-05. The quoted text is the community's; the verdict above is our reading of it. Conditions often decide whether a post fits (a required thread, flair, posting day, account age or karma), and r/backpacking's current rules on Reddit always win over this page.

Free, for a specific product: a researched Reddit plan by email (communities whose rules fit your post, quoted and dated), or ThreadFox Lite, read-only tools an AI assistant can use to read a community's current rules itself, through your own Chrome (Claude Code: claude mcp add threadfox-lite -- uvx threadfox-lite). For an assistant that also writes and posts within each community's rules, the ThreadFox kit is $49 once.

Want to post here? Get ThreadFox ($49): your AI (Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Codex) reads a community's current rules, writes one post that fits and posts once from your own Chrome. No Claude? We'll post for you ($99 per 30-day campaign). Free: a Reddit launch plan for your product, ThreadFox Lite or the posting checklist by email.

What its rules say about promotion

Self Promotion and Spam
This is a community of users, not a platform for advertisement, self promotion, surveys, apps, or blogspam. Including YouTube channels and Guide Services. Absolutely no app advertising here. Self promotion should be limited to about 10% of your posts. If this is a concern, go find a discussion to share all that good advice you have accumulated! What its rules say about AI and bots

All photos and videos must be Original Content
All photos and videos must be Original Content. No AI generated pictures. Reposts and stolen content is not allowed.
All 5 rules of r/backpacking
  1. All posts tagged "Wilderness" or "Travel"
In order to offer a place for the spectrum of Backpackers, posts should be tagged with either "Travel" for things most related to destination backpacking, and "Wilderness" should be used when the post primarily relates to outdoor camping or hiking.
  2. Submissions must include a short paragraph describing your trip.
Submitted content should be of high-quality. Low effort posting of very general information is not useful. Posts must include a trip report of at least 150 characters or a short paragraph with trip details. Tell us something about your trip. How long did it take to get there? How did you get there? How was the weather that day? Would you go back again?
  3. Self Promotion and Spam

  4. All photos and videos must be Original Content
All photos and videos must be Original Content. No AI generated pictures. Reposts and stolen content is not allowed.
  5. Be helpful. Don't use strong swear words.
Polite, constructive criticism of ideas is acceptable. Unconstructive criticism of individuals and usage of strong profanity is unacceptable.

What the written rules don't show

  • Unpublished minimums. Many communities remove posts from new or low-karma accounts through AutoModerator settings that are not on the rules page, often before a moderator sees them.
  • Reddit's own filters. Reddit's site-wide spam filters can remove posts from accounts that mostly share links to their own site, in any community.
  • The community's norms. Many communities see themselves as peers, not an audience: post where you already take part, and make the post worth reading without the link.

Let your AI read the rules before it posts.

ThreadFox reads a community's current rules, writes a post that fits them, posts once with Reddit's Brand affiliate tag and checks it stayed up. The free ThreadFox Lite reads rules too.
